Summary: There was a long wait on Regent Street, Cambridge waiting for the peleton to pass by, so I did this small pastel sketch of the crowd

tour de france pastels sceneThere was a tremendous sense of excitement when the Tour de France started off from Cambridge recently. Thousands were on the street, and I got a nice little elevated perch from which to sketch the scene in pastels. Of course everyone is kicking their heels waiting for something to happen, so I had plently of interest from nearby people in what I was up to. I thought I would put in a blur of cyclists as they passed through, but when it actually happened it seemed like the cyclists were almost incidental to the scene. So I didn't bother.
