Rome - pastels sketch in Trastevere

pastels in romeLast year I was painting in the far South of Italy - Puglia, but two weeks ago it was a long weekend in Rome. Rome looks wonderful in the sunshine (day 1!) but it still looks good in the rain (the rest of the time!)

Trastevere is now a rather bijou area of narrow streets and many restaurants - neverthe less worth a visit and this I did standing up since the road was so narrow I had no choice. But this gate was lovely.

Started off with an ink brushpen - which I am very fond of for architectural subjects - and then worked onto with hard and soft pastels.
