stean engine a cheltenhamI used water mixable oil paints for this painting at the Cheltenham racecourse station on the Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Railway.

They turned the engine round and backed it onto the carriages we had previously travelled up the line in. I set up my pochade box, got working on the background, and had brush in hand for the moment the engine backed up into my composition. They gave me 5 minutes, literally, to do this before telling me to board or get left behind. I boarded. I did a bit more on this from memory in the evening when I got back to Tewkesbury.
