maria santa pouloIt's probably too difficult to see but just above the figure in the pale green shirt hangs a famous painting by Caravaggio of St. Peter being hauled upright on a cross, upside down. Even though you could not stand square on to it (which is amazingly crass in my view) it was overwhelmingly powerful and stood head and shoulders above all other paintings I saw there.

I sketched this using brushpen, ink pen and pastels. Difficult perspective and proportions, but very satisfying to have a go at it. The light was a challenge too.
