Sunset at Felbrigg Hall, Norfolk, in oils

Posted On: Wednesday 5th September 2012
Summary: With the last of the sun fading away and night descending over Felbrigg Hall in Norfolk, UK, this was a chance to do a small pastel.

askrigg hall sunset pastelI was at Felbrigg Hall with my wife at the invitation of our daughter and son-in-law to watch "Jurassic Park" outdoors in the park of this historic building. All we needed was raptors to come charging out of the undergrowth.

I had my pastel kit with me - of course - ("doesn't he EVER leave his painting stuff at home?") put up my small easel and did this small pastel as the last of the light faded away. I love this kind of subject - especially the clouds and the reflections in the windows. By the time I'd finished, the helicopter was just descending into the gorge onto the helipad (c'mon now, don't tell me you can't remember!)
