Windswept hedgerow, Perranporth, Cornwall, in carre pastels

Posted On: Saturday 1st September 2012
Summary: This is a small, quick, sketch in hard carre pastels in a windswept lane above Perranporth, a popular holiday destination in Cornwall in the south west of England.

perranporth pastels painting sketchWe stopped for my wife to look at the Orchids in the foreground, and I sat down by the road to do this pastel sketch using hard pastels. A little girl on a pony ambled by slowly with someone holding the bridle, so I put them in. Having decided that the flower was a pyramid orchid, Judy allowed us to proceed to our friends' house in Perranporth. It's not often I'm ready to move on before she is.

I did this on a small piece of colorfix paper - which is like a fine sandpaper surface. It works really well with hard pastels because it drags the color off the pastel stick.
