Sketches from the Niger Delta 5 - pastel in the monsoon season at Enekorogha

I only had a small tin of pastels with me which was very limiting because I hate to blend or mix colours on the paper. Greens were a particular problem - I only had two green sticks, and the richness of the forest greens was very varied. So there were inevitable compromises and simplifications.

The electricity doesn't work by the way. Never has. But the poles and wires give the impression that it's there. One of the many contradictions and conundrums that is Africa. If you want electricity you bring your own "jenny" and diesel up river.
