Summary: This view of the west front of Rouen cathedral is very close to where Monet painted a series of oil studies of the same subject

rouen cathedralRouen cathedral was painted many times by Monet from a viewpoint close by. I was inspired by the thought of his many studies of the west front in oils to try my own version. There was no sun and the light was quiet and grey, and this brought out the subtle blues and ocres which I have contrasted with the strong sienna colour of the doors.
