Gouache and watercolour painting on the Costa Brava - Spain

Posted On: Tuesday 1st November 2011
Summary: As thoughts turn to the winter season, it's nice to remember sunnier times, and this gouache sketch done on the Costa Brava in Spain reminds me of warm beaches and long walks along the coast

Costa brava boats and beachThis was painted from our hotel window looking out over the beach and coast we were walking along. The paper was an oatmeal pastel paper and I painted with watercolour mixed with permanent white. Most of the buildings are painted in neat permanent white, which looked quite good against the natural color of the paper.

The architecture is so typical of this area of the Costa Brava in Spain. Each day we walked along the coast to the next hotel, offering the opportunity to travel light and to paint with lightweight painting materials.
