Summary: This is the finished, framed painting of cardoons that I painted as a demonstration for the latest video from Cambridge Art Academy in the Paintbox 3 series on how to paint with oils

painting still life of thistles cardoonsThese cardoons are really big thistles and make a fascinating subject for a still life. The flowers and leaves are spikey yet the flower shapes are full of large curves. The colours are also simple and strong - browns, purples and greens. 

So they made a good subject for an oil painting "how to" demonstration. The finished painting is oil on canvas, 16" x16", framed in blue-grey.
